Gratitude is one of my top five secrets of a happy life.
If you are feeling grateful, I defy you to also feel unhappy.
Everyone has something for which to feel gratitude. Even if your life feels as though it's going down the gurgler (or long gone) - you have the ability to read and understand (hopefully) these words, and therein lies one thing for which to be thankful.
If you really search, you can find millions of things in your happy life for which to be more appreciative. Focus on those things until you really feel appreciation in your heart. A grateful heart is a happy heart.
Please don't misunderstand me and think about things you think you should be grateful for, but rather things that actually generate that thankful feeling.
If this is a real sticking point for you, and you are really finding it difficult to find your gratitude (it's in there somewhere - I promise) get your hands on a copy of this book Gspot which will take you by the hand and lead you to your thankful heart.
If you can change your thoughts from those of "what's wrong with my life?", to those of "Wow! my life is amazing", which believe me, it is, just by virtue of the fact that you're here on this beautiful planet - your life will change. This is my solemn vow and promise.
1. Start with the little things.
If you're not thankful for a $35.00 lottery prize, you can hardly expect the universe to bestow the BIG ONE on you, can you? Have you ever witnessed an ungrateful child wanting more and more? Not pretty, huh? When that child whinges about not having enough, would you feel inclined to give it more? Don't think so!
Quite apart form the metaphysical aspect, YOU will be happier when you notice and are thankful for the smallest gift.
2. Express your appreciation
I am forever and always raising my eyes skywards and offering a quick, but heartfelt, 'thankyou'. Could this be one reason why I am such a happy person?
To my human counterparts, I also offer profuse thanks when it befits the occasion. Sometimes if I think my 'thanks' may have gotten lost in the conversation, I also text or email my thanks to ensure they receive my appreciation.
Do you like being thanked? Makes you feel pretty good, huh? You have the power to make someone else feel good, just by expressing your thanks. Costs nothing - makes someone else feel appreciated. Try it today.
3. Keep a gratitude journal.
Every night before you go to sleep, write a list of things for which you're grateful. The more appreciative you become, the more you will find to be thankful about. Pretty soon you will be loving your happy life, which will be chock-full of your appreciation for even the smallest things. You will be the happiest person you know, whether you live in a castle or a caravan. You will be great company, and will attract other happy, optimistic, appreciative people.
