Hi, and the warmest of welcomes to "Happy Life The JJ Way".

It's October! And the spring is hotting up in the land down under.

Time to peel off those winter woollies and the winter kilos and become beach-ready. For those of you living on the topside of the globe, this newsletter has something for you too, because the subject this month is borderless and seasonless. Enjoy.

When Did You Last Think This?

"Geez, I love my life"?

Take a moment now, and see if you can remember.

Maybe you DO love your life, but just haven't had that conscious thought.

Maybe, like me, you think it regularly. :)

Maybe it's been a loooooong time since you thought that.

Maybe you don't EVER remember thinking it.

It would be really sad if you fall into either of those last two categories, so let's do something about it.

If there is a reason you don't love your life, you need to do something about it, Pronto!

So take steps to eradicate that reason NOW - we can't have you wasting one more day.

It's important that you at least feel you are moving towards a Happy Life if you're not there yet. So start working out how to fix or remove yourself from that situation that is keeping you unhappy.

There IS something you can do WHILE you're working towards being happy, and that is to spend as much time as possible doing things that make you think "Geez I love this part of my life".

So, what makes your heart sing? Painting, hiking, playing music, making stuff?

When you identify it, make room for it, and do it as regularly as possible.

I would estimate that in the last year 80% of my "Geez I love my life" thoughts have taken place when I've been riding my bike, and the other 20% when I've been swimming at the beach. You see, simple things can make your heart sing - they don't have to be expensive or complicated. In fact, I'd really love to inspire you, wherever you are, to 'get on yer bikes'!

Bike riding has so many benefits! It improves your fitness, saves you money on your petrol bill (if you can build errands into your trip) makes you feel good about using your own power rather than petrol power, saves the environment, and just makes you feel great as you pedal along in the fresh air, breeze blowing over your face, at one with nature. Do it often enough and soon you will be looking hot as well as feeling fit.

If you think about it, there are probably numerous times in your week when you could ride your bike instead of taking the car, and each time you do you are shaping up AND saving money. You may even find you can ride to work a few days a week.

Here in Melbourne, we are spoilt with our spectacular bike paths meandering through parklands and bushlands throughout the city. Do some research and discover if your home town has dedicated biking areas - then go for it - you will FEEL GREAT!

Even if you do have access to bike paths, there are bound to be times when you can't avoid the road, so remember to:

abide by the road rules

wear something bright - fluro if possible

wear your helmet (of course)

if you will spend a lot of time in traffic, affix flashing lights to the front and back of your bike (helmet lights are also a good idea)

As you pedal along, loving your life, with a big smile on your dial, remember to keep your mouth closed so errant bugs don't find their way into your oesophagus.(it happens - believe me :))

If you don't currently own a bike, and tightness in the budget area may prevent you from buying one soon, ask your friends - someone always has one collecting dust in their garage.

They'd probably rather see you using it than have it collect more dust. Heck! They may even sell it to you at a bargain price.

What if you haven't ridden a bike since childhood? You will soon remember how. And you may also remember how great it makes you feel, as you ride along thinking to yourself "Geez I love my life!"
